|Julie McCollum majored in art at Kansas State University, but with marriage, Air Force moves and children, she did not get much work done. “I got serious about painting in watercolor when we were stationed in Anchorage, Alaska and haven’t stopped painting since.” She enjoys mixed media and paints a variety of subjects. Her favorites are chickens, people, flowers and abstracts. Julie says she paints for the pure joy of self expression.
In 2002, her painting was selected by the Assistance League of San Antonio to be used for their annual fund raiser. She has received awards from the San Antonio Art League, San Antonio Watercolor Group, New Braunfels Art League, Texas Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society, and Alaska Watercolor Society. She was awarded the Gold Medal by the San Antonio Watercolor Group in 2002.
Over the years, she has attended numerous workshops with such notables in the Arts as Charles Reid, Gerald Brommer, and Virginia Cobb.
