NanEtte Richardson Gallery

Robert Clayton

Born in Tucson Arizona the artist spent most of his boyhood in the southwestern states of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and in the high deserts of Mexico where he worked summers on the family cattle ranches. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters Degree from the University of Utah Graduate School of Art and Architecture.

Bob's painting career soared quickly winning him several awards over the years. His paintings quickly sold out on the first day in his very first gallery show and his work continues to be very popular and in much demand by galleries and by private commissions.

Also a licensed architect, the artist began to pursue his passion for painting fine art in 2000. He has developed his own unique painting style and is an excellent draftsman. His favorite medium is oil but he has been sketching with a pencil ever since he can remember. As one of Alaska's favorite, award-winning artists he is skilled in painting any subject but he admits his first love is landscape.

His philosophy in art is simple--to create paintings that please the eye and warm the heart. Accuracy in his drawings is important for a representational artist, but it also important that art be a thing of beauty and good design. He believes that a great painting is something that uplifts and of course captures the light. Light is everything.

He is an avid outdoors man and enjoys many interests including sailing his own 20 foot sailboat which he built. He and his college sweetheart, Diane, have been married for 44 wonderful years. After living in Eagle River Alaska for many years they now reside in their retirement home in Ninilchik, Alaska. They have seven children and 23 grandchildren and one more on the way, and love every day with each other and with their ever growing family.
