|Sam Baker is currently a Texas bank CEO. Although, he has spent the last forty plus years in the banking industry, he has always had a devotion and love for oil painting. At an early age, he was known as the class artist. While in college, his painting of fighting horses was named overall winner of a student arts exhibition, which made him realize his talent for painting could eventually become more than just a hobby. While his 8 to 5 job continues, as a banker, Sam spends most evenings and weekends creating his interpretations of Godís beautiful countryside on canvas. His pieces often depict horses, cattle, and working cowboys, while including the majestic beauty of stately oaks and Texas wildflowers. His works hang not only in Texas, but are in numerous homes and businesses from Kentucky, to Colorado, to New Mexico.
He has been influenced by renowned artists and has been fortunate to study with some of the best landscape oil painters in Texas. Larry Dyke has been a mentor to him for the past several years. Upon retirement, he plans on painting full time.
Per Sam, ďItís a study of life and itís what I was meant to do.Ē
